Fall River – A Case Study for Supporting the Arts

Oct 26, 2021

As many of you know, the Community Foundation has three areas of focus, education, economic opportunity, and the arts, which we call our Creative Southcoast Initiative. It began in 2017 and is focused on Fall River and New Bedford. Building on a partnership with the Barr Foundation, our goal is to attract and motivate local philanthropy to prioritize the arts. The initiative’s work has included public art, capacity building for small nonprofits, increased access for youth, and the elevation of culturally diverse creativity.

We recently held a session with funders and creative leaders to share what is happening in these two great cities and used Fall River as a case study for the impact arts and culture can have on urban centers and communities.
