The Community Foundation Awards Third Round of Grants from the SouthCoast Emergency Response Fund

NEW BEDFORD — The Community Foundation today announced $360,000 in grants for nonprofits providing food and healthcare to vulnerable populations throughout Southeastern, Massachusetts.

These grants contribute to the more than $1.2 Million that the Community Foundation has allocated over the past month through its SouthCoast Emergency Response Fund. The fund supports nonprofits that are on the frontlines serving those in our region most severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This third round of grants is for nonprofits operating within the Taunton, Attleboro and Plymouth region working in the areas of food insecurity and support for immigrants, essential frontline workers, families and individuals with disabilities. The organizations include the Arc of Greater Plymouth and Upper Cape Cod, Inc., which empowers and supports people with disabilities and their families.

“People with disabilities are often marginalized, and for many, the pandemic has expanded the need for advocacy and support. Our organization developed and deployed a remote support model and is now providing virtual classes focused on skill acquisition, socialization with peers, and showcasing the talents of the people we serve.” Said Kathy Baldwin, the Arc director. “Funds awarded by the SouthCoast Emergency Response Fund will be put to use ensuring that our staff and people we support are protected by the appropriate gear, and that we can continue offering remote support classes to our community.”

This third round of grants from the Fund was made possible through the Community Foundation’s partnership with the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund. The Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund supports those across the state most impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, focusing on essential frontline workers and vulnerable populations including the homeless, immigrant populations, people with disabilities and those facing food insecurity. The Fund works in concert with regional community foundations and non-profit leaders who partner with local leaders to understand the response and relief landscape, strategically filling in where gaps are pronounced.
