What is Giving Tuesday?

Nov 29, 2022

Hear Leonard Lee, President and CEO of the SouthCoast Community Foundation, on WBSM’s Money Wise radio show discuss the global generosity movement that is Giving Tuesday. Listen to the show.

What is Giving Tuesday?

  • Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.
  • After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, we celebrate Giving Tuesday. It is the biggest day for charitable giving in the year, and it’s a global movement – there are 80 countries that have official Giving Tuesday national movements.
  • The movement continues to grow – in 2021, an estimated $2.7 Billion were donated in twenty-four hours in the U.S. alone, a 9% increase over the prior year.
  • We all can take part in Giving Tuesday by making a donation to any charity that is important to you, or by donating your time to an organization that needs volunteers.
