“As soon as we learned about the Emergency Response Fund, we knew we wanted to pitch in,” commented Elizabeth Merrick. “We had such a positive experience partnering with the team when we set up the scholarship. We knew they would have a good handle on which nonprofits needed the funds to help people in need as quickly as possible. And that the funds would get directly into their hands without a lot of bureaucracy.”

Like many, Brian and Elizabeth Merrick were holed up at home due to the pandemic but anxious to find a way to help. They did their research and discovered we had opened the SouthCoast Emergency Response Fund. The Merrick’s were familiar with the Community Foundation, having set up a scholarship fund with us in 2017. We were moved to learn the story behind the Merrick’s decision to support the Community Foundation relief efforts, and the Merrick’s were elated to learn they had been the very first donors to the fund with $100. The Merrick’s understand that no gift is ever too small.
