Impact Profile: Meet the Immigrants’ Assistance Center

Jul 19, 2021

“I came to the United States when I was 10 years old. I have a lot of passion for what I do because I feel I live the mission of this organization, every day. After 38 years, I still love coming in and helping people who are in need.”

– Helena DaSilva Hughes, Executive Director, Immigrants’ Assistance Center

Established in 1971 by members of the Portuguese community, the Immigrants’ Assistance Center (IAC) has been helping immigrants, approximately 12,000 a year, on the path to citizenship overcome language, cultural and economic barriers, and integrate into the American way of life while maintaining their ethnic identity and pride. In today’s Impact Profile, Executive Director Helena DaSilva Hughes gives us an overview of the organization and an update on their focus areas for this year.
